
The brush fire season has started early this year and could extend well into early summer. Lack
of snow fall and moderate cold weather have, made conditions of lower humidity that are
creating an extremely dangerous threat of brush and grass fires.
The Onesquethaw Volunteer Fire Company asks that residents observe the following safety
precautions to protect you, your, neighbors, your home and property:
1. Remember all fires are dangerous, and can spread out of control in just a few minutes.
2. If a controlled burn gets out of control CALL 911 immediately do not hesitate.
3. Please Report all controlled burns to the Albany County Sheriff’s Department @ 765-
2351. Give you name, address when you are going to start burning & when the fire is going to
be put out.
4. Never leave fires unattended.
5. Never use gas, oil, kerosene or and other flammable liquid to start a fire.
6. Keep your controlled burn 100 ft or more from any structure or wooded areas.
7. Avoid burning on windy days.
8. Never burn piles of brush over 3 feet high
9. Always be sure to keep
10. Properly extinguish fires when cooking outdoors.
Protect your home from other wild fires;
1. Always practice fire safety.
2. Have a clearance of at least 30 feet between your home and areas of heavy vegetation.
3. Keep grass around your house mowed and free of leaves and pine needles.
4. Keep flammable materials away from the base of all buildings.
5. Clear roofs and gutter of leaves and pine needles.
6. Check lawnmowers and farm equipment for properly working spark arresters.
Other wildfire prevention tips;
1. Do not discard cigarettes on the ground or throw them from moving vehicles.
2. When pulling to the side of the road, stay off dry, grassy areas.
3. Do not operate all-terrain vehicles on dry vegetation areas.
4. Be sure to properly extinguish all camp fires.
